下个礼拜、今天的回忆

Had a sudden inspiration for a simple love song a few days ago... the melody is still very 'work in progress' (haven't thought of a nice one yet!).

Retro Gaming

This week is pretty uneventful… I started this week looking forward to the weekend. Why? That is because I am not working like everyone else. In fact, I have to admit this I totally wasted this week doing absolutely nothing useful… I played computer games…
(-_-")

Nope… I didn't play those newest games like Warcraft 3, Doom 3 etc… My brain is too slow for that kind of stress. So I started to play retro games!

Retro games are those old Sega, Nintendo (remember Mario Bros?) computer games that we used to play when we were in primary or secondary school (more than a decade ago!!). I remembered I had a major screw-up while playing this Sega game "Shining Force 2"… I accidentally deleted my saved game… shucks… (I abandoned the game after that horrible accident!)

*This is one of those humorous screenshots of 'Shining Force 2'!*

So now here I am playing this little old game again… I figured that it might be one of those things I want to tie up in my lifetime heheh… I actually downloaded a Sega Genesis emulator on my pc which sort of 'act' as the real Sega game machine so I can play the game using my pc (my old Sega machine is long gone!). United States is looming around the corner; I really have mixed feelings about this trip (happy to finally be able to leave, but will miss a lot of things… and some people…)

River IQ Game

Played this flash game today (actually tried for a while yesterday and gave up!).

River IQ Game

The setting is:
A family of six (father, mother, 2 daughters, 2 sons) got lost while hiking. Unfortunately, they also met an escaped convict who almost harmed them! Luckily, an off-duty policeman was hiking nearby and caught the convict. Now, they are all lost in the wilderness with no contact with the outside world. They finally reached a river with a 2-man raft and they need to cross it to reach for help...

Rules of the game:

  • Only 2 persons on the raft at a time
  • The father can not stay with any of the daughters without their mother’s presence
  • The mother can not stay with any of the sons without their father’s presence
  • The thief (striped shirt) can not stay with any family member if the Policeman is not there
  • Only the Father, the Mother and the Policeman know how to operate the raft

Okay... i am pretty dumb and could not solve it. And I even got lazy and googled for a solution. (bravo the power of google!) Try it! (Do not get lazy like me and click on the solution in my comments =P!)

Earth From Above

Passed by this exhibition on Monday (7th November) on my way to Orchard MRT station. The pictures are really spectacular and are all taken from the sky. Check out the website here.

Here's an introduction taken from www.alliancefrancaise.org.sg:

LA TERRE VUE DU CIEL- Earth from Above
For the first time in South-east Asia in Singapore

Venue : Orchard Road
stretching across Liat Towers,
Far East Shopping Centre, Hilton Hotel
and Forum Galleria.
Dates : 27 October 2005 - 17 January 2006.

EARTH FROM ABOVE is a spectacular presentation of large-scale
photographs of breathtaking natural landscapes. Created by world-famous
photographer Yann Arthus-Bertrand, every stunning aerial photograph tells a
story about our changing planet. Seen together, they are an outstanding visual
testimony to the world we live in today. A world with a growing population,
shrinking biodiversity, polluted lands and oceans, a changing climate and a
shortage of drinking water. A world, nevertheless, of beauty and of wonder.

This exhibition is brought to Singapore by the French Embassy and the
Singapore Environment Council.

Firstly, those pictures that you see online is nothing compared to those prints you will see in the exhibition. The images are the same… but they are printed in such a size and texture that it almost look like a painting. Those photographs look like huge photographs rather than posters. Seriously, you have to see for yourself. But… please do not flame me if you are unimpressed! I am no art-fanatic or photographer, but I enjoyed the exhibition!

Here's one image that I particularly like:

Wooded island on a lake on Kenai Peninsula, Alaska, United States Posted by Picasa

When I revisited this exhibition again with a friend on Wednesday (9th November) by coincidence, she described this picture as looking like a slice of heaven. Incidentally, this is the first thing that came to my mind when I saw it for the first time =).

Go AMD!

Recently have been advising a friend of mine on having a D.I.Y. PC… I realized that many people really trust the Intel brand name a lot… it almost seems like Intel Pentium are the only microprocessors out there. In fact, Intel has a rival in AMD (Advanced Micro Devices).

If you have surfed around in the website hardwarezone's forums, you will realize that most people prefer AMD chips when they want to D.I.Y. This is mainly because of the good performance versus the low price. For the same price, an AMD chip will most probably beat a Pentium chip in performance.

However AMD chips were not always good. In fact, I used to have a super lousy AMD powered PC. The heatsink fan is extremely EXTREMELY noisy and the motherboard and videocard keep crashing on me in the 3 years I used it. I think that the awful experience is partly due to very poor D.I.Y by a friend. Lesson learned… D.I.Y only if you know how to… or else please get someone you can trust. (Well, I trust myself so it's ok!)

With this horrible experience… why did I chose AMD again? Well, AMD has come a long way from those lousy years. Nowadays, motherboard manufacturers using Nvidia Nforce chipsets has really brought stability to AMD powered computers. In the end, I still trusted my instincts and went AMD… I did not look back…
